Married To Medicine star Dr. Heavenly Kimes‘s controversial statements on her podcast motivated Bravo TV fans to start a Change.org petition against her.
The issue:
Martin Golan began the petition.
“Dr. Heavenly Kimes, a star on Bravo’s ‘Married to Medicine,’ has recently made homophobic comments on her podcast.”
“Homophobic prejudice is a destructive force that propagates division and hate, contributing to many societal issues, including mental health problems and violence against the LGBTQ+ community.”
The transcription:
Dr. Heavenly said, “When you have a conversation with somebody, if somebody gets upset and it goes to the left. Most men, real men, not gay men, not, not bitch men, you know what I’m saying?”
“The guys that have scared us off, but real men are gonna feel like, you know what I mean? Straight men are going to feel like if you tell my wife to shut the fuck up, I’m going to have a problem with it.”
The harm:
Martin Golan wrote, “These damaging remarks by Dr Kimes promote prejudices and directly harm an already marginalized group.”
“Bravo’s ‘Married to Medicine’ is a popular show which casts a deep influence on its viewers’ perceptions. By failing to address Kimes’ homophobic remarks, Bravo TV and NBC also indirectly endorse this harmful rhetoric.”
“We call upon Bravo to take decisive action by ending their professional association with Dr Heavenly Kimes. Show that Bravo stands against homophobia and for love, acceptance, and unity. Sign the petition today.”
