Over a decade ago, Real Housewives of Orange County star Vicki Gunvalson had her love tank filled by Brooks Ayers, but their failed relationship left The OG Of The OC without closure.
At the RHOC season 20 premiere party, Vicki told Us Weekly that she learned about trust the hard way … thanks to her ex, who lied about having cancer.
“When I love, I love hard, and I trust. Now people say to trust and verify. I don’t want to be a detective in a relationship. You tell me something, I’m gonna believe that. And obviously we know what happened with that.”
After Brooks’ cancer scam became a topic of conversation on Bravo, he eventually admitted to his nefarious scheme. “What I did was wrong and inexcusable.”
In November 2015, he told E! News, “I acted alone, without Vicki’s knowledge, to produce documents for a reality TV show in hopes of putting doubts about my cancer to rest. From this day forward, my own personal journey with this disease will remain private as I initially intended over a year ago.”
More than 10 years after the episodes aired, Vicki still wonders about Brooks’ intentions. “I believed him. Who knows what the real story is? I never got to talk to him. He left me in the middle of the night, and that was it. I never got closure on that guy, never.”
Vicki added that Brooks “got married real quick” after leaving her. “When you give your life to somebody, financially give money to those people, and then all of a sudden they lie to you, it’s hard.”
