The legal team behind Dakota Sweeney, West Wilson‘s cousin who murdered their grandmother, requested that he be evaluated for treatment at a mental health facility.
According to reports from US Weekly, Dakota’s legal team filed paperwork earlier this month. They requested to amend an earlier request for a medical professional to perform a mental health evaluation.
In the original motion, the attorney asked that a medical professional evaluate West’s cousin to see whether he could not understand proceedings and whether he understood “the nature, quality, and wrongness” of the crime he allegedly committed.
The amended motion shows that Dakota’s lawyer requested that the medical professional evaluate whether Sweeney should undergo treatment at a hospital regardless of whether or not he is found fit to stand trial.
The state had no objections to the amended request. A judge approved the new motion.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE, the Summer House star’s cousin “knowingly caused the death” of Gayle R. Wilson by shooting her. He was also charged with armed criminal action.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s probable cause statement stated that Carroll County law enforcement officials were “notified of a homicide” on Wednesday, April 22.
After responding to the residence, they found “Victim #1” dead inside. Also inside the home were Dakota and “Witness #1.” Victim No. 1 and Witness No. 1 are identified in the statement as “the grandparents of Sweeney.” Yes, their grandpa watched his wife’s murder.
In a statement shared the next day, authorities noted, “These charges are a mere accusation and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of these charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.”
Dakota is being held without bail at the Caldwell County Jail.
