Tim Curry, best known for his starring roles in Clue, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, It, and Home Alone 2, has passed away.
The 80-year-old character actor died Tuesday night. His rep, Sean Katz, confirmed to USA Today that their family had to say goodbye to Tim.
Tim’s death came 14 years after suffering a major stroke that left him partially paralyzed.
“Tim Curry, the iconic actor and entertainer globally beloved for his dynamic contributions to the stage and screen, passed away at his home on Aug. 25, 2026. Tim’s peaceful passing was confirmed by his longtime manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz.”
The statement continued, Tim was “widely known for his inimitable, flamboyant characters and colorful stage performances. His greatest legacies to those who knew him were his curious, expansive mind.”
While promoting his memoir last year, Curry spoke about how he would want to be remembered most. “I hope it’s as an actor, but not as a movie star, because I don’t think of myself that way,” he told USA Today.
In his final interview, Tim said that he didn’t “fear death.” It would be “very comforting to ‘go bye bye.’”
“I want to earn it,” he said in an October 2025 “CBS Sunday Morning” segment. “I want to earn the privilege of not being here.” Tim added, “I think I might very well embrace it.”
Tim Curry’s most iconic roles include Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Daniel “Rooster” Hannigan in Annie, Pennywise the Clown in the TV miniseries of Stephen King’s It, Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island, Mr. Hector in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Nigel Thornberry on The Wild Thornberrys, Darkness in Legend, and – my personal favorite – Wadsworth in Clue.
