The Vivienne‘s cause of death was announced two months after their untimely passing.
Simon Jones, who managed The Vivienne, told People how RuPaul’s Drag Race UK‘s winner died. The drag artist born James Lee Williams died โfrom the effects of ketamine use causing a cardiac arrest.โ
The Vivienne’s Ketamine use:
“James’s family and I feel it is important to say how James tragically died,” began Simon. “It was from the effects of ketamine use causing a cardiac arrest.โ
He noted there will be โa formal inquestโ into The Vivienne’s death.
โI hope that by us releasing this information we can raise awareness about the dangers of ongoing ketamine usage and what it can do your body.”
Stop the cycle:
The Vivienne’s friends and family don’t want others to experience the loss they have as a result of Ketamine use which โis on the rise, particularly amongst young people. The “full dangers” of the drug are not being discussed.
Simon also announced they are teaming up with Adferiad, which is a UK-based charity that โcampaigns for and provides services to people affected by mental ill health, drug or alcohol use, gambling harms, and other challenging circumstances.โ
โWe hope that by working with Adferiad we can raise vital awareness.” They also hope to “give information on how to get help if you are struggling with ketamine usage.”
The Vivienne’s sister on the dangers of Ketamine:
The performerโs sister, Chanel Williams, added in a statement to Attitude: โWe continue to be completely devastated by Jamesโs sudden death.โ
โKetamine is an extremely dangerous drug that is becoming more and more prevalent in the UK,โ she shared. โIf we can help raise awareness of the dangers of this drug, and help people who may be dealing with ketamine addiction, then something positive will come from this complete tragedy.โโ
