At the Summer House season 8 reunion, Amanda Batula opened up about her mental health struggles.
Amanda detailed that after she and Kyle Cooke tied the knot, she slipped into a bought of depression she coins as “post-wedding blues.”
The swimsuit designer revealed that despite addressing her mental health, she still hasn’t quite “bounced back” yet.
This week, Amanda went on the Conversations with Cam podcast, and detailed her experience with depression and what helps her navigate it.
Amanda Opens Up
The Summer House star admitted that depression is genetic and runs in her family.
“I almost didn’t go home for Thanksgiving,” Amanda recalled from that pivotal year.
“I was fully prepared to miss out on my family’s Thanksgiving because the thought of getting ready to go home was so overwhelming.”
Her desire to stay home and isolated was one of the final straws before she admitted to herself, “I need help.”
Another realization was her neutrality surrounding death. While she wasn’t outwardly suicidal, she found comfort in the peace.
“Which was weird because I’ve never felt that way,” she says. “I was okay with life just being done.”
Amanda credits “taking that little tiny pill” to helping her get out of a dark place and for “changing her whole world.”
As someone who also takes a little pill to help control the often insurmountable feeling of anxiety, I can relate the feeling of relief with the aid.
Medication is not for everyone, but if you ask most who rely on it, it changes everything.
