Summer House alum Paige DeSorbo is getting candid about a painful chapter from her past.
After spending years building the Giggly Squad audience, Paige has become increasingly open about more personal topics.
Most recently, she shared details about a physically and mentally abusive relationship she experienced while she was in college in an interview with Variety.
For years, Paige kept the experience largely private, telling only a few close friends and family members because she felt embarrassed. “I felt like, ‘How could I let this happen to me?’ I didn’t want them to think less of me. I thought that way for the rest of my 20s, and I just really never brought it up.”
After years of therapy, the Daphne the Label Founder said she eventually reached a point in her early 30s where she felt she would be “doing a disservice” by keeping her experience to herself — particularly because of the young women who follow her.
Paige star hopes that speaking publicly about what happened will encourage other women who find themselves in difficult or abusive relationships to leave. “I think my ‘character’ on Summer House was strong and confident. The number one thing about domestic violence is it can truly happen to anyone,” she explained.
Admittedly, Paige added, “I felt almost a little fraudulent not saying that I had been through this, because it shaped a lot of how I did date in my late 20s.”
