Mayci Neeley opened up about a harsh reality of reality TV that we don’t always talk about.
The Told You So author took to Instagram Stories to answer fan questions about the newly airing season 4, revealing that a lot of what she films never makes it to air.
“I feel like a lot of what I film is cut, so every season it’s a little frustrating when I watch the show back,” Mayci shared.
According to the MomTok star, viewers missed out on special moments from her book tour — including a surprise from her SLOMW co-star and bestie, Mikayla Matthews.
“A small crew filmed NYC and New Jersey, and Mikayla showed up to surprise me. My parents were there too,” she explained.
Mayci said the support from her friends and family on the road ended up being the highlight of the tour, but scenes like that often don’t make the final cut.
“I feel like unless there’s a ton of drama or relationship struggles, things get cut. Which is really unfortunate,” she added.
During the current season, Mayci receives a call from her publicist expressing concern about low ticket sales and what they felt was a lack of promotion.
So to Mayci’s credit, not finishing that storyline does seem like a missed opportunity.
The Cutting Room Floor
The SLOMW star also added context to Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt missing her SLC book tour stop.
“I didn’t have that expectation for them since they were in LA doing Dancing with the Stars. I feel like me talking about that was left out. They were out living their dreams and I was living mine,” she said.
It’s always interesting to hear what ends up on the cutting room floor, especially when it sounds like there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes than what we actually see.
Personally, I don’t mind the drama, but I do like when we get those side quest moments too!
