Southern Charm‘s Whitney Sudler-Smith discussed his upcoming projects with Deadline, which include a feature film, New Rose, and a comedy series, Family Office.
New Rose:
Whitney described the comedic thriller New Rose, which he wrote and will direct, as “American Psycho meets Love Island.”
He also revealed that AC Independent, Cliffhanger, and Thank You Pictures have boarded the project. “It is expected to begin principal photography in the Spring.”
Here’s the pitch … “A man gets humiliated on national TV and then eventually pivots to join the Ukrainian army where he becomes a drone operator, killing hundreds of enemy targets.”
“He is repatriated back into society where he gets a thirst for killing. Then some reality producers come calling and they want him to come back to an all-stars reality show on a remote island. You can assume what happens after that.”
Family Office:
Patricia Altschul‘s son also revealed that he is working on a pilot for a scripted comedy series, dubbed Family Office. “[It] takes the piss out of young London society with the intrigue of a Bourne Identity”.
“The pitch is Gossip Girl on ketamine,” Whitney quipped. The series plans to shoot in London in the coming months.
Southern Charm’s success:
Whitney admitted that he never could have anticipated the series to have the longevity it’s had so far. “We thought it was this smart-ass, theatre of the absurd that deconstructs this myth of the Old South. Now it’s grown into a male version of Housewives.”
He also teased a new digital series with Southern Charm cast member Shep Rose. Whitney teased that it was “an adventure show.” He described it as a combination of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations meets The Trip.
