Dancing With the Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy is ready to switch things up in the ballroom.
After 22 seasons on DWTS, Val admitted he would love the opportunity to compete with a male celebrity partner.
“I want to challenge myself creatively and also recreate and reinvent what I’ve done in that ballroom for the last 22 seasons,” Val told In Touch. “I’ve been around the block a couple of times. I would love to be partnered with a male contestant.”
Val pointed to the show’s evolving approach to same-sex partnerships, noting that Dancing With the Stars has “kind of started to break that mold with the female contestants.”
His wife, Jenna Johnson, made history when she was partnered with JoJo Siwa during Season 30. More recently, their niece Hailey Bills was paired with Sarah Jane Nader in Season 35.
“I know that that’s on the horizon,” Val said of eventually dancing with a male celebrity. “I would love for it to not be exclusive to, you know, [be] based on anything outside of just creating art that looks slightly different from what we’re used to seeing, and I’d love the opportunity to do that.”
ICYMI, Val recently competed on Worst Cooks in America alongside Lisa Barlow, Reza Farahan, and Manila Luzon. Last week, Val and Jenna were featured on the season premiere of ABC’s hit crime comedy, R.J. Decker.
