From the creator of American Horror Story and American Crime Story, the notorious murderer, suspected serial killer, and body snatcher, Ed Gein will be the focus of Netflix’s newest series.
The Monster anthology focused on Jeffrey Dahmer for its first iteration and the Menendez Brothers for its second.
What to expect:
Monster will follow Ed Gein, dubbed the “Butcher of Plainfield,” who killed multiple women in rural Wisconsin in the 1950s. His horrific crimes went on to inspire classic horror movies like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, The Silence of the Lambs, and Psycho.
Actors were cast in roles for Alfred Hitchcock (who directed Psycho), Anthony Perkins (who played the antagonist in Psycho), and the director of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so it’s safe to assume there will be a meta film-within-a-film aspect to Monster, and I can’t wait!
The cast:
Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam transformed into one of the most infamous killers of all time for Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster: The Ed Gein Story.
Suzanna Son from Fear Street: Prom Queen plays Adeline Watkins, Ed Gein’s longtime love.
Feud: Capote vs. The Swans’s Tom Holland will play iconic movie director Alfred Hitchcock.
Laurie Metcalf is taking on the role of Augusta Gein, Ed’s mother.
Alma Reville, Hitchcock’s wife and consultant, will be played by Olivia Williams from The Crown.
The cast also includes …
- Vicky Krieps as Ilse Koch
- Joey Pollari as Anthony Perkins
- Mimi Kennedy as Dr. Mildred Newman
- Charlie Hall as Deputy Frank Worden
- Tyler Jacob Moore as Sheriff Arthur Schley
Netflix drops Monster: The Ed Gein Story on October 3rd.
