Meredith Marks is speaking out following sharing her religion/heritage on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
During the second episode of the season, Walking a Tight Rope, Meredith recommits to Judaism. She and her husband, Seth Marks, attended a cooking class where they learned to make a traditional Israeli dish. In that scene, the bath lover shares her desire to have a Bat Mitzvah.
If you’re not up to date on religious ceremonies, a Bat Mitzvah is a Jewish coming-of-age ceremony. These ceremonies mark the transition to adulthood and Jewish religious responsibility. The term “Bat Mitzvah” translates to “daughter of commandment” in Hebrew.
It’s clear’s Meredith is not in the “coming of age” demo for a traditional Bat Mitzvah. I guess you can’t put an age limit on growing closer to your faith.
However, Meredith seemingly received some online backlash following the episode premiering.
Mere’s Statement
The Marks matriarch shared a message with her half a million Instagram followers on September 29.
“My family advocates for kindness and acceptance of all races, religion & ethnicities,” the snowflake holder begins.
“By learning about each other’s journeys, we can transform negativity into positivity & love. I spoke solely about my heritage, not politics. Refrain from using semantics to promote antisemitism. There’s only one race: the human race. Let us embrace kindness& reject all forms of hatred together.”
She concludes her IG story saying,
“Thank you to everyone who has shown love; I love you. To those who harbor hate for me embracing my heritage, I send you love and positivity, hoping you can overcome your hatred.
One of the cornerstones of #RHOSLC is talking about religious backgrounds so to me this is no different. Religion is prevalent in Salt Lake and it’s important to recognize everyone’s unique experience.”
Personally, I haven’t seen any hate sent Meredith’s way following the episode, but that doesn’t make her experience any less valid.
