Katie Thurston shared a devastating cancer update with her followers.
On February 18, the former Bachelorette announced her breast cancer diagnosis with the world.
“I experienced a range of emotions over the past two weeks. Despair. Anger. Sadness,” Katie said.
“Denial. And then strength. Purposeful. Ready. I cried a lot. I tried to even make a video instead of this post and couldn’t.”
Since that announcement just 43 days ago, Katie revealed her cancer has spread to her liver — making her official diagnosis, stage 4 breast cancer.
The Update
A PET scan detected small spots on Katie’s liver that her New York medical team felt were suspicious.
Katie captioned her update,
“There is a lot of testing and prep that goes into cancer treatment. One important test is checking to see if the cancer has metastasized (spread). Unfortunately for me, mine has and I am now #stage4breastcancer . I’ll finally start my treatment next week. 💕 #breastcancersupport #breastcancer“
“It is fairly small,” she noted. “However, that does put me at stage 4.”
Despite the unsettling news, the reality star is focusing on the relief in catching the spread early.
“I know stage four can sound very scary, and it can be,” she admitted. “However, given that I am triple positive and the spots on my liver are fairly small and detected early, I feel very optimistic on my outcome.”
