Joy Behar trashed The Bachelorette casting for naming The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives‘ Taylor Frankie Paul as the season 22 lead.
The View host popped off about TFP’s past.
Not a Joy-ous announcement:
The 82-year-old talk show host thinks Bachelor producers missed the mark casting Taylor. “She has three kids and two baby daddies.”
Considering the logistics, Joy surmised, “So, will these Bachelors line up to be baby daddy No. 3?”
Joy joked, “Isn’t that the whole point of the show? To find your lover and get married. OK, she’s got a little bit of baggage.”
FYI, Taylor and ex-husband Tate Paul share daughter Indy May, 8, and son Ocean Paul, 5. She shares son Ever True, 17 months, with ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen.
Diff POVs about TFP’s Bachelorette casting:
Joy’s co-host sees ABC’s master plan of getting TSLOMW’s massive audience to watch The Bachelorette, which has been dipping in ratings for years.
Sara Haines thinks there’s “A-level synergy” between ABC and Hulu. ICYMI, Taylor’s co-stars Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt joined the season 34 cast of Dancing With the Stars.
Panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin teased, “[They] need to come promote it on The View and really do that crossover.”
On a serious note, the former Press Secretary of the Department of Defense of the United States admitted she was “very conflicted.” The unprescidented choice of casting outside of Bachelor Nation may alienate their loyal viewers.
“My mom was texting me, had strong feelings about it. It’s always been someone within the Bachelor franchise. This is someone outside the franchise. [Taylor] has had a colorful past.”
She went on, “I don’t judge women for having kids with different men. She’s had actually a pretty challenging life and you get a glimpse into her family if you watched Mormon Wives. It’s tough. They navigate a very restrictive religion. She’s stepped out of the faith and now is trying to find herself.”
Still, she thinks TFP will be “excellent. [She’s] super authentic and extremely chaotic. Those are both great for reality TV.”
When Sunny Hostin wondered how TFP could date multiple men, considering her faith. She was quickly reminded that Taylor is no longer a practicing Mormon.
“Not all Mormons are the same,” Behar added. She quipped, “[Next,] you’re gonna hear [former Utah Senator] Mitt Romney is soft swinging.”
