Kerry Washington teased a Desperate Housewives-inspired show, Wisteria Lane, for fans of the scripted series that inspired the Real Housewives.
During an interview on The View, the Scandal actress chatted about the reimagined serial she’s executive producing.
The announcement:
“This one I’m very excited about,” The View’s host gushed to Kerry.
“One of my favorite shows, it’s rumored you’re working on a remake of ‘Desperate Housewives’ that’s going to be called ‘Wisteria Lane.’ Tell us more!”
Beaming, Kerry began, “I can’t say too much. It’s very newly announced, in development!”
Why bring back the legendary black comedy now?
“The idea is that it’s new times. There are new challenges,” explained Kerry.
“It’s like, what happens on that cul-de-sac now?” she added. “It’s really exciting.”
When Kerry was quizzed by the host whether Wisteria Lane would feature “new women, old women?” Kerry kept coy, shutting down the topic.
What we know about Wisteria Lane so far:
The “Desperate Housewives” remake will be a “fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery” set around “a group of five very different friends and sometimes frenemies who all live on a picture-perfect cul-de-sac,” according to Variety.
“On the surface, all the Wisteria neighbors are living the dream,” a summary of the reboot continued. “Beautiful homes, gorgeous families, shiny SUVs in the driveway – but behind those white picket fences and smiling Insta posts, are secrets.”
Without Desperate Housewives, there would be no Real Housewives:
Bravo’s producers, including Andy Cohen, acknowledged that Desperate Housewives inspired the Real Housewives. Fans were quick to call out all the similarities between the scripted and reality TV shows.
Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, noted that Bravo used the word “Housewives” and capitalized on the popularity of the show.
