Dancing With the Stars pro-turned-judge Derek Hough had fans doing a double take after he accidentally called Tyler Cameron “Dylan” during Tuesday night’s Season 35 premiere.
While critiquing Cameron and partner Sharna Burgess’ tango, Derek appeared to completely forget the Bachelor Nation star’s name.
“Dylan, you have this, like, Patrick Swayze aura about you, right? You’re cool, masculine, just effortless. It really is amazing, truly.”
Fans immediately caught the name mix-up and took to social media to call out the six-time Mirrorball champion-turned-judge. “Did Derek call Tyler Dylan?! 🤣” one viewer asked. “Am I the only one who heard Derek call Tyler Cameron Dylan 🤣🤣,” another fan posted. A third fan admitted the flub had them “giggling so hard,” while another bluntly asked, “Can Derek get their names right? Who’s Dylan??”
One fan even offered a possible explanation for Hough’s slip-up, writing, “Bro Derek thinks Tyler Cameron is Dylan Efron from last year.” That theory would at least explain the confusion. Dylan Efron competed on Season 34 with Daniella Karagach and finished in fourth place, becoming a fan favorite along the way.
Despite the name mix-up, Derek had plenty of positive things to say about Cameron’s performance. The judge told the Bachelor Nation alum that he’ll be “fantastic” if he can combine his natural “presence” with proper “technique, frame and posture.” Tyler and Sharna ultimately earned a 17/30 from the judges for their tango to Lenny Kravitz’s Are You Gonna Go My Way.
Premiere: Night Two, which will see the eight female celebrities dance to a chart-topper from their birth year, airs tonight.
