Conner, who appeared on season 35 of Dancing With the Stars, took to social media to share his reaction to the violent sex crimes against a female Cornell student by seven of her classmates. In total, there were 57 men in the fraternity group chat connected to the Cornell University sexual assault lawsuit who did nothing to help the victim.
The video showed Conner drafting a letter along with the message, “There’s only one thing more terrifying than r*pe. Realizing the system meant to protect you failed you too.”
“What happened at Cornell raises a simple question: When someone comes forward, is the system truly built to protect them, or will it protect the attackers?”
Conner captioned his post, “Know My Name by Chanel Miller should be mandatory reading in schools. Without accountability, society loses its meaning.”
“I’m not just raising my boys to make sure they are never one of the seven. I’m raising my children to be the one person in that group chat of fifty that Jane Doe needed.”
“It is not enough to teach our kids the difference between right and wrong. We have to instill in them the reason, conviction, and courage to speak up when something is wrong, even when no one else will. We should raise children who refuse to participate in vile acts, but we should also raise children who refuse to stay silent when they witness them.”
