Things got a little heated between Carrie Ann Inaba and Jenna Johnson during Super Bowl Night!
Following Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna’s Samba to “Yeah!” by Usher, the judges praised the dance’s show-stopping quality but weren’t as impressed by the lack of traditional Samba content.
Specifically, Carrie Ann called out Jenna for not incorporating enough Samba into the choreography.
“If that was a halftime show, amazing. I loved it. I loved every minute of it,” Carrie Ann said during the Oct. 13 episode.
However, she wasn’t done.
“Don’t clap yet. It’s a Samba,” the judge continued before suggesting Jenna challenge herself more with the choreography.
Before wrapping up her critique, Carrie Ann also called out a “lift” in the dance, which Jenna appeared to question.
The DWTS host responded to Jenna’s pushback by reading the literal definition of what constitutes a lift in ballroom dancing.
“Any movement during which one of the dancers has both feet off the floor with the assistance or support of their partner.”
Ultimately, Harry and Jenna earned a 33/40 for their Samba.
Guest judge and sports commentator Joe Buck gave the pair their only 9 of the night, while the rest of the judging panel each awarded them an 8.
Next week on Dancing with the Stars is Dedication Night!
