Actor and host of The Traitors US, Alan Cumming, hosted an intimate event inside Las Vegas’ Thriller Villa, discussing his play, I’ll Be Seeing You, based on a playwright struggling to write a story about Liberace.
During the event’s Q&A, Alan acknowledged how queerness is embraced and celebrated on The Traitors in a time of political subjugation.
Alan began, “There is great oppression and persecution in this country against queer people, especially trans people. That’s just a fact.”
“The idea that [The Traitors US] has become the number one unscripted show in America is so queer. It could not be queerer.”
“The sensibility of it, me at the center of it. People love to see what I’m wearing, what Lala (Alan’s rescue dog) is wearing, what nutty, campy things I’m going to say.”
“That’s the thing about satire in times of oppression. I love that as an interesting thing in our country. We are living in a time when we are all over this queer show.”
“I do think the character that I am does draw great inspiration from Liberace. You have to keep topping yourself.”

Regarding The Traitors US’s 4th season, Alan promised an even more extravagant wardrobe for the show set in the Scottish Highlands. “Each season that goes by, wait til you see the one that’s about to start …”
“The first one, I’m dressed as a coffin – a sparkly coffin. There are all these coffins on the lot. It’s so nuts.”
“The thing about Liberace, you have to give more and more and bigger and bigger. I’ve been saying that to Sam the stylist, “I’m going to be wearing a spaceship.”
Alan explained that The Traitors’ 5th season wardrobe will be a reset. ICYMI, s5 of The Traitors will feature ‘normies,’ rather than public figures. “The next one we make in a few months is for ‘real people.’ So, what we are going to do with the real people one is reboot. Bring it down a little bit. Maybe back to where it was the first season, so we can build up again.”
“Otherwise, I will be borrowing things from downstairs,” quipped Alan.
