Actor Alan Cumming is known for keeping his cool as the host of The Traitors, but even the Emmy-winning host has his limits.
During an appearance on First We Feast, Alan was asked which Traitors player came closest to making him break character while filming Peacock’s reality competition.
“Last season, when Bob the Drag Queen went at it, I thought it was going to be a fight,” Alan answered. “Everyone was freaking out because they were really going for it. It got really mean.”
The situation became intense enough that Cumming thought he might have to step in. “I thought I was going to have to get in between or say, ‘Sit down!’” he admitted. “That was really scary.”
Alan also reflected on the unique emotional chaos that comes with The Traitors, where contestants are encouraged to deceive, betray and banish one another — all while living together in a pressure-cooker environment.
“A lot of these people don’t have a very good sense of what their behavior is doing in the world,” Cumming said.
The host has previously described the show as “Lord of the Flies with Botox,” a comparison he doubled down on during the interview. “It’s a fucking game!” Cumming said. “It’s a game called THE TRAITORS.”
While the competition is designed around betrayal, Alan acknowledged that the premise can have real emotional consequences for the people playing it. “The success of the game, but also the curse of it, because some people are really hurt,” he explained. “You have to betray people.”
