Real Housewives of Potomac star Wendy Osefo claimed she is the victim of an “illegal” arrest after being charged with multiple counts of criminal fraud.
Us Weekly reported that Wendy’s lawyer asked the court to dismiss the charges against the RHOP personality.
A sneak peek of how Wendy’s legal team is approaching the case:
Late last week, Wendy’s lawyer demanded all charges be dismissed due to alleged “defects in the charging document.”
They demanded that all evidence be “suppressed because of an unlawful search or seizure.” Additionally, all wire and verbal communications are to be “suppressed because of an unlawful interception.”
In the filing, Osefo’s lawyer claimed his client was “illegally arrested.”
The reality star with four degrees’ counsel said “all admissions, statements or confessions” should not be allowed as evidence because “they were unlawfully obtained.”
The charges against Wendy and her husband, Eddie:
Arrested in Westminster, Maryland, on fraud charges, Wendy and Eddie were released from jail after posting $50,000 bond each. A grand jury indicted the RHOP stars on charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy fraud, and making a false statement to a police officer.
Wendy also asked that the “trial of co-defendants be severed from the trial(s) of this Defendant.” In other words, Wendy appears to be separating herself from Eddie and the charges he’s facing.
The lawyer defending Wendy demanded the prosecutors turn over any alleged evidence they possess in a separate filing. They demanded a list of all witnesses the prosecutors plan to call and any polygraph results of witnesses questioned by law enforcement.
Wendy also wanted to know if the prosecutors had any “confidential informants” who worked on the investigation. Her team asked for copies of all official police reports.
