What’s in a name? If you ask Lala Kent, she’s clapping back at the origin behind her youngest daughter’s name.
On September 9th, the VPR star revealed the name of baby number 2 with her 2.4 million Instagram followers. At the time, fans teasingly wondered whether Sosa was an ode to a rapper, baseball player, or drug cartel. Or perhaps all three?
A likelier meaning is that it’s a Portuguese word meaning “salt water.”
However, the mother of two didn’t have a rhyme or reason for the name. She just liked it! (which is reason enough)
Lala on Baby Sosa’s Name
Lala shut down fan theories on Monday morning with an Instagram story.
The podcaster also addressed her baby girl’s name on Give Them Lala.
“I have always loved the name Sosa,” she began. “Ever since I saw the movie Hardball with Keanu Reeves, and he takes all the kids to go to the baseball game and they see Sammy Sosa. I just was like ‘oh my god I am obsessed with that name.’”
She goes on to say she never fantasized about planning her wedding day as a little girl, but she’s always had a running list of baby names.
As a girl who also never dreamed of her future wedding but has an entire note in my phone of baby names, I do feel Lala on this!
“That has been on my list that has traveled with me from the time I was playing with Barbie’s.”
“Okay what does the name Daniel mean? It’s just a name.”

Personally, beyond the initial name reveal, I haven’t seen anyone allude to Sosa being named after anyone…
