Love Island USA winner Trinity Tatum opened up about the public perception of her relationship with Bryce Alakai.
In an interview with Elite Daily, Trinity discussed the racial dynamic in her relationship that many people are hung up on.
“We are not the first or last interracial couple. I think that people have such expectations because they expect a white man not to be attracted to a black woman. But this is not the 50s.”
“I think that if roles were reversed and he was a black man and I was a white woman, nobody would really question it.”
“But I think because I’m a dark-skinned woman, they’re like, ‘Oh, does he really like her?’ I think it’s such a non-factor.”
During season 8 of Love Island USA, Trinity opened up about her deep-seated fear of dating outside her race. She admitted she worried Bryce would ultimately prefer someone matching his “usual type” or someone more familiar and comfortable.
