Dancing With The Stars‘ longtime host, Tom Bergeron, gave a shout-out to the season 34 cast and crew.
Nothing but love:
Tom took to Instagram to share a headline about DWTS’s success and shared a message to his former colleagues, the new team, and stars.
“Now THAT’S how to kick off an anniversary season! Congratulations 👏🏼.”
The DWTS fam slipped into Tom’s comments to share their appreciation:
- Julianne Hough – “Love you Tom ❤️”
- Valentin Chmerkovskiy – “❤️”
- Elaine Hendrix – “Thank you Tom!!! Miss you. 😍❤️”
- Derek Hough – “🙌❤”
- Emma Slater – “Love you!”
No hard feelings:
In 2020, Tom and his co-host were replaced by Tyra Banks.
According to reports from US Magazine, DWTS’s executive producer explained, “I think it’s all about evolution.”
“I think any show like this that has been on many, many seasons needs to continue to evolve. I think changing the host was all about evolution, it was about making the show feel fresh, making it feel new [and] kind of make it reach out — maybe to a new audience as well, as well as the audience that’s been there for years.”
Despite the success of the Supermodel, talk show, and reality tv host, Tyra only lasted 3 seasons. She claimed it was to open her calendar for other opportunities, but many fans (particularly my mom) did not care for Tyra’s hosting style.
DWTS winner Alfonso Ribeiro and former pro-dancer and judge Julianne Hough replaced Tyra for season 32.
The numbers:
As someone who does girl math, even I know these numbers are gooooooood.
DWTS’s season 4 premiered to 5.5 million total viewers.
Up 6% in total viewers and by 49% in rating from last year’s premiere, the episode is the series’ biggest premiere in five years.
The competition series also won the 8 p.m. time slot, coming in above NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” in both total viewers (+23%) and adults 18-49 rating (+182%).
According to ABC, “Dancing with the Stars” beat the combined averages of all broadcast competition in the time period.
I couldn’t help but wonder:
What will this week’s ratings look with so many canceling their ABC/Disney/Hulu subscriptions?
