Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is officially cancer-free!
The Jersey Shore alum revealed she has no evidence of disease just seven months after being diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer and undergoing a hysterectomy on July 31.
“They got everything out. So I’m definitely happy that I did it,” Snooki exclusively revealed to PEOPLE.
The reality star also admitted she avoided getting a Pap smear for a long time.
“Once I finally went to the doctors, I feel like it’s just been week after week of doing a procedure, then another procedure, and then a hysterectomy,” she continued.
“So it’s been a journey and a long road, but I’m happy that I’m on the other side of it and everything is going good.”
Even though Snooki is “on the other side,” she recognizes that recovery and healing are still a slow process.
“I’m trying to listen to my body and give my body grace and not go crazy. There’s days where I do too much and then I just feel exhausted and I start getting pains,” she admitted.
“But other than that, I’m finally starting to feel better. I feel like I’m almost getting back to myself.”
The MTV alum also told the publication she didn’t know any women actively going through cervical cancer when she was diagnosed.
However, by opening up about her journey and being transparent with fans, Snooki has found community and comfort with her online “hyster sisters.”
“It just makes it less scary because we’re not the only ones going through it. I needed something like that while I was going through it.”
