Real Housewives of Potomac alum Nneka Ihim is sharing some bittersweet baby news.
(Trigger Warning: the below contains topics surrounding pregnancy loss)
The one season housewife shared exclusively with People Magazine that she and her husband were pregnant with twins, but unfortunately lost one of them.
Nneka implanted two embryos— one girl, and one boy. Unfortunately at her 8 week checkup, doctors noticed one of the twins no longer had a heartbeat.
The mother to be recalled spending 4 days in bed after finding out about her loss.
“I wasn’t really eating, wasn’t drinking, wasn’t doing what I needed to do to care for the one that I still had. Because to me, it just felt like I wasn’t pregnant anymore,” she shares to the Mag.
“I saw both heartbeats on the screen, that was the pregnancy. It felt incomplete once the other one was gone.”
Even though their grief is heavy, the parents are looking for “celebration through trauma.”
Nneka’s pregnancy journey
“We’ve been through this for so long and God has finally blessed us with this pregnancy, so we’re trying to be very optimistic here. My doctor says the one we have now is very healthy and very strong. I’m more than halfway through, so at this point, I feel much more stable.”
“After losing the twin, it’d be very easy to sit here every day like, ‘Is there a heartbeat? Is everything going to be okay?’ But I just have to have faith that’s not going to happen.”
After two years of trying, baby Ihim is due this May.
Though bittersweet, I’m so excited for Nneka and Dr. Ikenna Ihim on this blessing. After seeing a small part of their pregnancy journey on the show, it’s heartwarming to see it take fruition.
Perhaps next season on the Real Housewives of Potomac, Candiace Dillard Bassett and Nneka can rejoin the cast with their new bundles of joy. Babies really are the great neutralizer.
