Monyetta Shaw-Carter is opening up about a deeply personal battle.
The former Real Housewives of Atlanta star shared with her Instagram followers that she has spent the past year privately fighting stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma โ a common form of breast cancer.
This isnโt Monyettaโs first health scare.
She revealed exclusively to People that her first breast biopsy was over a decade ago and, thankfully, came back benign. But this past fall, something felt different.
โI was doing a self-check because I felt this random sensation that I canโt really describe in my left boob,โ she explained. โIt was like nothing Iโve ever felt before. It was literally like my body was alerting me that something was wrong.โ
A few months later, she was officially diagnosed.
Since then, the Bravoleb has undergone a lumpectomy and completed 16 rounds of radiation. On May 2, she rang the bell โ a milestone for cancer patients symbolizing the end of treatment.
โBecause I caught the cancer early, I will be here for my kids,โ Monyetta shared. โThereโs nothing more important than getting checked often and early to protect your future. Our health is irreplaceable.โ
She also took time to thank her medical team: โI canโt thank my exceptional doctors and nurses enough. They are our heroes!โ
