Summer House‘s Kyle Cooke told Page Six how he supported his wife, Amanda Batula, when she was battling depression.
Team Kymanda:
“I think sometimes people not only need support but they almost need a push in a certain direction.” Kyle explained, “When she opened up, we weren’t positive she was on the right medication. So, I helped find another doctor.”
Amanda thanked Kyle for his support, “He’s been super helpful,” before teasing him … “for the most part.”
Kyle was able to relate, as he went on antidepressants when he was a teenager. “I remember it like yesterday,” revealed Kyle. “It was ninth grade. There was a period of time when I felt very lost, very depressed.”
He noted how medication “can really help reset.” He also reiterated Amanda’s message that society needs to “remove the stigma” around taking antidepressants. DJ Kyle continued, “As a kid, I would never talk about this. It was something that I was embarrassed about.”
Amanda’s current status:
While she’s in a much better place mentally, Amanda still has “good weeks” and “bad weeks.”
“I think that’s just what it will be forever, but I’m here, so that’s good,” she added.
The reality star concluded that despite her journey being a lifelong one, she has found that telling her story to the public has been “super rewarding.”
“I never thought twice about talking about my depression. I don’t know if I realized there was such a negative stigma about it.”
