Kristen Kish is known by many as the Top Chef winner turned host, but to actress Teyana Taylor, she’s a teacher.
The two-time Emmy-nominated host and bestselling author is the Chef-in-Residence at the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. Kristen is “bringing a renewed focus on hands-on mentoring and engagement with aspiring chefs,” like Teyana.
Oui, Chef!
The Traitors US season 4 contestant hopes to “help students discover confidence in their own culinary voice. This first year has been about connection — sharing ideas, experiences, and perspectives.”
The All’s Well star actress is juggling her own culinary studies. Like Kristen, Teyana is booked and busy. In fact, Teyana needed an extension to complete an assignment when she took home Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in One Battle After Another.
On the red carpet prior to the star-studded ceremony, the Golden Globe winner revealed she had to ask for a short extension on a culinary school assignment so she could balance her coursework with awards-season commitments. “I was like, ‘Chef, this is when the double life is kicking in,'” she recalled, “because I’m a straight-A student and I want to keep it that way. And I don’t want to make any excuses. I don’t want no breaks, because you know, you could take a semester off. I don’t want to do none of that, like, just give me a couple extra days.”
For Teyana, cooking is “very therapeutic.” That helps her balance Hollywood and her homework. “Oh my God, oh my God, my deadline is on Tuesday. I gotta have my meal in by Tuesday.” Despite the juggling, Taylor highlighted that the school has been “very supportive” of her balancing her career and coursework. “Shoutout Escoffier,” she added at the time. “They’ve been very, very supportive of me.”
