Karen Huger claimed that she refused to watch the police body cam footage until her trial in a pre-recorded scene with Ray Huger that aired during part 3 of the Real Housewives of Potomac reunion.
The scene was shot ahead of her going to a treatment center with her husband. Karen’s co-stars made it clear they weren’t buying what she was selling.
A Taste of Reality for Karen:
The now-imprisoned Real Housewife recalled, “I’m sitting there in the courtroom, like, ‘I have to finally watch it.'”
“I kept saying, ‘Well, surely they made a mistake, right, because everything’s not connecting for me.’ And I watched, and I’m telling you, I didn’t recognize that woman. I didn’t know her.”
Additionally, Karen said she “blacked out” from drinking before crashing her Maserati into a tree. So, finally seeing the footage “helped” her make sense of the night’s events.
Karen’s confession:
As Ashley Darby clocked, Karen and Ray seemingly made a checklist of points to address the word on the street regarding her crimes.
The former Grande Dame admitted, “It’s my fault. What happened to me was self-inflicted. I drove, I had that accident, I put people in danger.”
And now for the excuses …
Karen claimed she was “self-medicating” with antidepressants after recently upping the dosage. “Instead of going back to the doctor, I adjusted my medication. I self-medicated that night.”
“What I do remember is going to a friend’s house. I started drinking champagne, but I had forgotten that I had taken the medication. And, not only just taken it, I had upped the dose.”
The carefully curated scene continued:
Ray noted Karen’s 2024 DUI arrest was not her first run-in with the law, as she’s had four driving violations since 2006.
“I guess you feel especially bad about it now that you’ve been there, done that, had the lesson, and you’re sort of back there again somehow.”
Then, Karen announced she was checking herself into a treatment center to prevent herself from behaving like that again.
Subsequently, she sought treatment at a wellness facility but stayed for less than a month before she had to return to face her sentencing.
Karen was sentenced to a two-year prison term, with one year suspended.
