Teddi Mellencamp‘s husband Edwin Arroyave is standing by his (formerly) estranged wife as the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum battles stage four cancer.
During an episode of The Eds podcast, Edwin opened up to Eddie Judge about how Teddi’s brain cancer diagnosis had changed their relationship.
Family first:
The founder of Skyline Security recalled learning about Teddi’s devastating diagnosis. His first priority was to make Teddi feel “confident” about her prognosis. Also, he prioritized getting their relationship in a “good place” and ensuring their kids were well taken care of.
“People think that’s hard, but for me, that’s just what I do. No matter what, I will always love Teddi. She’s been a big part of my life. I like taking care of people, it’s just what I do. So it wasn’t even like, a question.”
Edwin continued, “I think a big part of dealing with this situation is feeling confident, feeling like you’re not alone. Her friends [and] her family all stepped up. It helped me a lot.”
Teddi and Edwin’s relationship status:
When it comes to their separation, Edwin revealed that Teddi’s health struggles have helped them reconnect. But, they are currently taking things one day at a time.
“The first thing is just making sure that we take care of this first. We’ll see what happens with time. But, for right now, it’s just more of like, how do we take care of you? And how can we get you back to normal as fast as [possible]? That other stuff will figure itself out.”
The dark, scary reality of Teddi’s diagnosis:
The Two T’s In A Pod host’s cancer reached stage 4 after her melanoma metastasized to her brain and lungs.
According to articles published in the National Institute of Health, up to 60% of patients with advanced melanoma develop brain metastases during the course of their disease. “The presence of brain metastases significantly worsens a patient’s prognosis.”
Stage 4 cancer is the most advanced phase of the disease, with a five-year survival rate of 35%, per the American Cancer Society.
