Dorinda Medley and Cynthia Bailey pinpointed one major difference between them and the new era of Real Housewives.
The Real Housewives of New York Legacy cast member teamed up with the Real Housewives of Atlanta star to discuss how the culture of Housewives has changed since its inception.
They put the Real in Real Housewives:
Dorinda described her time on RHONY. “We weren’t very self-aware; we weren’t overly obsessed with what we looked like.”
“If they were filming in our house [or] if we went to a cast thing, we dressed up and went to a cast thing.”
Dorinda elaborated, “We were like, ‘Come in. Come see it all. Walk away from it and tell us what you think. A lot of times it wasn’t good (feedback), but that was fine.”
“Let me tell you something,” interjected Cynthia.
“These new housewives, they literally have their own photographers to travel with them [and] their own glam squads.”
“I don’t know how much money you guys are making, but I know a lot of it is going towards these pictures that have to be on Instagram.” The model noted they are “literally at the mercy of [their] glam squad.”
Dorinda noted, “The old housewives are very frugal.”
Case in point … Cynthia described “The woman that I work with, Miss Crystal Kung Minkoff from Humble Brag, [as] the cheapest, rich woman that I know.”
Dorinda and her old(er) money agreed. “We watch our pennies. We’re from the old school.” 50+ Cynt explained that she stopped buying first-class tickets thanks to Crystal’s influence. “I go coach.”
Dorinda agreed, “Crystal is frugal. She is no joke.”
I saw the following post on Instagram yesterday and thought how much I missed the days of Real Housewives being Real, and not curating their content:
Like Sonja (with a sexy ‘j’) Morgan, Vicki Gunvalson wasn’t afraid to flaunt her toothless (not homeless) smile for her Instagram community to chew on.
The newer Housewives WOULD NEVER!!!!
