The massive success of Love Island USA seasons 6 and 7 just may have inspired a fictional movie featuring A-list talent, as per reports from Deadline.
Strike while the iron is hot:
David George took over the leadership of ITV America’s scripted strategy recently. The CEO wants the massively successful dating show to become a feature film. This move would be to transition Love Island to “part of a broader strategy of taking more advantage of its own IP [Intellectual Property].”
Love Island USA became a “lightning bolt” for David George. It “acts a lot more like a sport than it does a television show [with] a tremendous amount of value.”
“We should be thinking about everything through the lens of how do we create something that creates peripheral value for us as a company? The economics of production are getting tighter and tighter. So, if you’re not trying to figure out how to make peripheral money, it’s going to be really difficult for you to continue in content.”
He wondered, “Why are we not taking Love Island and figuring out how we’re going to translate that into the movie world? There may be something going on there. I can’t even begin to tell you what it is, but there are those types of conversations.”
There is early speculation around the project:
Rumors hint that David George has already wheels in motion. His team could be “convincing writers to set a feature in the villa.”
There’s also been alleged talk around casting the show’s host, Ariana Madix, formerly of Vanderpump Rules fame. Actresses such as Sydney Sweeney, Kristen Bell, and Chloe Fineman have floated to star as Ariana.
