Aubrey Plaza opened up about the heartbreaking loss of her husband, screenwriter and director Jeff Baena, in a deeply moving conversation with her longtime friend and Parks and Recreation co-star, Amy Poehler.
The couple first began dating in 2011 and announced they had tied the knot in 2021.
Sadly, TMZ first reported that police responded to a death investigation at a Los Angeles home, where Baena was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office later confirmed to Variety that Baena died by suicide.
Appearing on the Good Hang podcast, Aubrey Plaza shared for the first time how she’s navigating life and grief in the wake of his passing.
“Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you,” Aubrey told Amy.
“I’m here and I’m functioning and I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I’m okay, but it’s a daily struggle, obviously.”
Aubrey compared her grief to the recent horror film The Gorge starring Miles Teller.
“At all times, there’s like a giant ocean of just awfulness,” she explained. “It’s just always there, and the monster people are trying to get me.”
Her words paint a vivid, raw picture of what it feels like to live with loss while still choosing to show up in the world.
