After Ariana Madix was dragged for lip syncing on Peacock‘s float at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, an interview with John Legend resurfaced giving insight into performing in a parade works.
John Legend entered the chat:
The singer/songwriter made the following comment about singer Rita Ora in 2018 after parade viewers complained she lip synced.
“We all have to lip sync on this parade because the floats don’t have the capacity to handle the sound requirements for a live performance. Hope y’all enjoyed it anyway.”
Rita Ora thanked the Grammy winner for speaking up about not singing live.ย “John Legend thank you for clarifying what I was about to also tweet. Itโs annoying for us, but anyway!”
Kelly Clarkson commented that she DID sing live at the parade:
American Idol’s first and most influential winner, Kelly Clarkson,ย made it clear she did not use a track when she performed at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
In an Instagram post from the time, Kelly wrote, “Umm, I don’t know if y’all know this, but that was live!ย Brynn Cartelli. Thank you [for] singing in this cold weather with me. It’s so cold in New York.”
“I just wanted y’all to know Brynn Cartelli, but that was live as well. So Brynn Cartelli’s just rocking those runs this morning. I didn’t even give those runs this morning. I was like, nope! Anyway, happy Thanksgiving, y’all!”
