American Idol celebrates its 24th season in collaboration with Dancing with the Stars for a special episode on Monday, May 4, 2026.
During the official American Idol Podcast, host/season 34 contestant Danielle Fishel and DWTS Pro Jan Ravnik, gave a sneak peak of what’s to come for the first ever crossover episode.
What to expect:
Jan will be joined by DWTS pros Gleb Savchenko, Rylee Arnold, and Witney Carson dancing alongside the Top 5 contestants on American Idol.
ABC‘s crossover event will feature ballroom performances during live voting for the Top 3.
This episode acts as a celebration of the legendary 2006 season (season 5) while advancing the competition to the final stages.
ICYMI, Derek Hough was recently a guest mentor during Idol’s season 20 Disney Night. Also, pro dancer Sasha Farber served as an industry expert during the current season’s new ‘Ohana Round.

While this is the first time the hit shows have collaborated, there’s been crossover from AI to DWTS in the past.
American Idol season 5 finalist Kellie Pickler won season 16 with her professional dance partner, Derek Hough, who now serves as a judge on DWTS. .
Season 10 runner-up, Lauren Alaina, placed 4th on Dancing With the Stars with Gleb Savchenko. Idol’s season 6 winner, Jordin Sparks, placed 9th with Brandon Armstrong.
