History:
According to USA Today, “the exhibition will explore the importance of style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora,” particularly in the United States and Europe.
The 2025 Met Gala theme is partnered with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibit of the same name, on view May 10 to Oct. 26. It’s inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” Dandyism was defined as “both an aesthetic and a socio-political strategy through garments.”
