What sets Busy Bee Cafe apart?
Its history, longevity, and authenticity: Opened in 1947 by Lucy Jackson, a self-taught cook. Its significance during the Civil Rights Movement: During a time when Jim Crow Laws adamantly enforced segregation, Atlanta was segregated, so there were few locations where African Americans could gather in large numbers. Busy Bee Cafe was listed in the Famous “Green Book” Guide for Travel & Vacation – The Negro Travelers Guide. During this time, black entrepreneurs invested in the area and created thriving business that grew and created promise for the community. These safe places were listed in the Green Book during 1936-1966.
Its welcoming atmosphere and the sincerity and loyalty of its staff and its home-cooked, home-grown food continues on in Atlanta, Georgia.
